Guesty Locks Manager: Updating Lock Code Settings

With Guesty Locks Manager, you can manage every smart lock you use remotely – all from one dashboard – with an automatic, unique code generator and full visibility into lock data. See more information here.

Once your locks are linked to properties, the code creation is activated by default. You have the option to define your code settings by changing the number of digits, the activation and deactivation time, and whether your Smart Locks code is generated at random or based on the guest's phone number. Follow the steps below.

Before you begin

Be aware of the following restrictions regarding code settings:

Setting or changing codes manually is not yet supported.

Code settings apply to all properties. Before changing the number of digits, make sure all your linked locks can support the chosen code length.

Code setting changes will apply only to new reservations.

Activation and deactivation settings will apply only to private unit doors. For common door settings, see here.

Update Lock Code Settings

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty For Hosts account.
  2. Access Guesty Locks Manager
    1. On desktop: At the top right click the diamond icon then Guesty Locks Manager.
    2. On mobile: Click Menu then scroll down to click Guesty Locks Manager.
  3. In the left hand menu, click Code Settings.
  4. Update one of the following settings as needed.

Guest code activation

  • Default activation

The guest code is activated by default at Estimated Arrival Time (ETA). The time is based on the property check-in time, or on the guest's ETA if updated in a reservation.

  • Default deactivation

The guide code is deactivated by default at Estimated Departure Time (ETD). The time is based on the property check-out time, or on the guest's ETD if updated in a reservation.

  • Change default

Click the dropdown to change the activation or deactivation time, in 15 minute increments from ETA/ETD. For example:

  • Start the code activation 30 minutes before ETA
  • End the code activation 45 minutes after ETD

Guest code activation best practices

For more details on setting the timing for guest code activation, including how to handle early arrivals, see our best practices.

Code format

Number of digits

  • Default is four digits
  • Click the dropdown to change the number of digits

How code is generated

  • Default is random code generation
  • Click the button to change to last digits of guest's phone number
    • If, at the time of confirmation, a reservation does not include a guest
phone number, then the code will be random

Important:

For Nuki locks, due to Nuki's restrictions, codes cannot include "0" or start with "12". We recommend using the default random code generation instead of the guest's phone number which can include the restricted digits.

If there is an issue at check-in, you can share the guest backup code or create a newly generated code.

Manage codes created outside Guesty

  • Permanent lock codes are imported as team member codes when lock provider connected
  • Default setting is to manage these codes in Guesty
  • To continue managing permanent codes outside of Guesty, toggle off then click Save.

Note:

The lock provider SmartThings does not support importing existing codes to Guesty. If you are connecting this provider and have existing codes on the locks, you will need to manually remove them from the provider's app and then create new codes in Guesty.
