Automate August Smart Locks with Guesty For Hosts (Legacy Solution)

Important:

The Smart Locks Automation solution will stop being supported by Guesty on December 31, 2023 and is not available to new users. You can sign up for our new and upgraded product Guesty Locks Manager.
Guesty For Hosts is integrated with August locks to automatically create the gate codes for your reservations. See here for details on the type of locks supported. You can also integrate these automated codes into your automated message templates to fully automate your entry process.

Details and Important Notes

Please read and understand the following information before you start using our August integration:
  • Our automated code names will have your guests' names. Do not modify or delete them.
  • We currently only support 4-digit codes with your locks. Please make sure that you have a keypad and your settings allow 4-digit codes.
  • We create the codes 5 days before check-in at 12:00 PM.
  • If the check-in date is closer than this 5-day period, we will create your codes immediately.
  • The codes will only be valid during the reservation dates.
  • We will automatically delete the gate codes two days after check-out.
  • We will inform you via push notifications when we create or alter your codes.
  • The cost will be $0.75 per created code, charged in the month of creation.
  • We do not create the codes if they are already created on your end. We do not touch your manually-created codes. We do not alter or delete these codes.

1. Connect Your Smart Lock Account

  1. Sign in to your Guesty For Hosts account.
  2. In the top toolbar, click Menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "More Features" section and click Smart Locks.
  4. Click Accounts & Locks.
  5. Click Connect New Smart Lock Account.
  6. In the pop-up, click August.
  7. Click Select.
  8. Enter your August credentials and click Login.

2. Match Your Locks with Your Listings

After entering your account credentials, you will be directed to match your August locks with your listings and create the settings:
  1. Choose your code algorithm from the following options:
    1.  Last 4 digits of the guest's phone number
    2.  Check-in month & day (MMDD)
    3.  Check-in day & month (DDMM)
      1. If you choose the last 4 digits option and there is no phone number for your guests, we will create the code with the MMDD option for this reservation.
  2. Check-in time
  3. Check-out time
  4. Click the Match Locks button to complete the process after you matched your listings and adjusted your settings.
  • It is possible to choose different code algorithms for different listings.
  • To view and update these settings after the initial matching process, navigate to Menu > Smart Locks > Accounts & Locks > Locks > Code Settings.

3. View Your Automated Codes

We will start adding the codes immediately once you complete the matching. Automated codes per guest can be viewed in Reservation Details. To view your full queue of automated codes, including those that will be charged and those that can still be edited or deleted, follow the steps below.
  1. Sign in to your Guesty For Hosts account.
  2. In the top toolbar, click Menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "More Features" section and click Smart Locks.
  4. Click Codes to view the following:
    1. Created: Finalized codes that are within 5 days of check-in.
      1. You will be charged for all "Created" codes.
    2. Upcoming: Immediately added codes for upcoming reservations over 5 days prior to check-in.
      1. These codes can be edited or deleted. You will not be charged for "Upcoming" codes as they remain outside of 5 days prior to check-in.
    3. Deleted: Codes that have been deleted from the queue.

Important:

We name your automated gate codes with the actual guest names. It is essential that you do not modify or delete these codes in the August application.

4. Send Code to Guests in Automated Message

Use our Message Automation feature to send the code to your guests. You simply need to add a tag for the door code to an existing message template, or create a new template and related automation rule to include the door code along with any other check-in information.
  1. Create or edit your message template.
  2. When adding tags to your template, click More Tags.
  3. From the pop-up box, select the tags for your door code depending on your code set-up:
    1.  Last 4 digits of the guest's phone number: "Guest Phone Number (Last 4 Digit)"
    2.  Check-in month & day (MMDD): "Check-in Month (MM)" followed by "Check-in Day (DD)"
    3.  Check-in day & month (DDMM): "Check-in Day (DD)" followed by "Check-in Month (MM)"
  4. Create or edit your related automation rule to schedule the message.
