New Short Stay Levy tax in Australia

As of 01 January 2025, online booking platforms that facilitate short-term accommodation services (such as Airbnb, Booking.com, and Vrbo) are required to charge, collect, and remit a new Short Stay Levy (SSL) tax as follows:

  • Accommodations in the Victoria region only
  • On reservations 28 days or less
  • 7.5% of the total booking payout

Taxes set in Guesty For Hosts are synced with Airbnb and Vrbo upgraded connection only. However, these two channels have advised Guesty of the following:

  • Airbnb is applying the SSL automatically to relevant guest reservations
  • Vrbo is covering the SSL until further notice

Based on this information, the SSL tax should NOT be added to the listing settings in Guesty For Hosts. Please contact the channels directly for further information.

For direct bookings made via the Guesty For Hosts website builder, add the SSL tax in your website tax settings.

When creating a manual booking, you can add the tax manually under the payout details.
